Tribute to Mikey

Created by Margaret 3 years ago

I only met Mikey 6 years ago, but I feel his loss, as much as those who have known him twice as long.

I was first introduced to Mikey by Geoff Schumann, who recommended me for the Birmingham Rep, after attend the weekender in April 2015.  From then I swear Mikey had my number on speed dial.  He was planning a trip to Jamaica later in that year, he knew I was planning to go.

So in true Mikey style, he ponder in his head, and came with a suggestion, which meant I could share with Jennifer, and be part of his Birthday group.

Eventually, I said yes, to spending 2 weeks in the Rio hotel, sharing with someone I did not known, with a group of 30 other people, where I only knew one of the other person.  You could never say no to Mikey.

It was the best decision I have every made.  I then became one of the holiday family.

That was Mikey, he knew how to link up people,  he had the ability to link stranger who would click.  Because he kept like minded people around him.  People who enjoyed life, were easy to get on with, but definitely those who like going on holiday.

I could go on, as Mikey, loved to laugh and make fun of you.  He was a total trickster and loved playing planks on others.

Like the time he surprised Audrina on her 50th celebration, in Cuba.  He used me as to inside man to keep him up-date with all the plans, and ensure his arrival was a surprise and he was able to attend all the pre planned excursions.

For his 60th, I took the lead to arranged his surprise Zoom celebration when plans for a dinner had to cancelled because of Covid.  Looking back now I am so glad we did this, as he was able to hear all the tributes that were collected from what I term the holiday family.  He got to hear the love we all have for him.  How special he is, but more to the point, we got him, with a surprise, he had no idea what was being plan.

Mikey had a zest for life, which he shared with everyone around him, if he was making plans, it would also include others.  Mikey was a selfless man and he will truly be missed.  Gone too soon, but never forgotten.  RIEP Mikey
